The Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo Foundation (OKWAF), in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment (MoYDE), has held a free community health screening in Akropong-Akuapem to close out the week-long Odwira Festival celebrations.

The yearly initiative, led by OKWAF, seeks to promote accessible healthcare and improved well-being for the people of Okuapemman. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Emmanuel Asa-Ntow, Executive Director of OKWAF, reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to advancing community health. He noted that, unlike previous editions that included surgical outreach missions from the United States, this year’s focus was on comprehensive health screenings for a wider range of conditions.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, and several NGOs such as Alpha Health Group and Vision Spring. Services offered covered breast and prostate cancer checks, oral health examinations, glucose and blood pressure testing, as well as blood donations.

Ms. Sandra Asafo-Agyei, representing MoYDE, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to youth health and empowerment, highlighting that this was MoYDE’s second major health outreach, following a similar programme at Mantse-Agbona, with plans to extend to more communities.

Community members expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Ms. Diana Afram, a resident of Mamfe, shared her appreciation for the opportunity to undergo breast cancer screening and NHIS registration free of charge.

The health outreach at the Odwira Festival not only emphasized the collaborative efforts of OKWAF and MoYDE in promoting public health in Akropong-Akuapem but also reinforced the importance of accessible and inclusive healthcare for all.
