Education

HELLO

Welcome to the OKWAF
Education Programme

For nearly 200 hundred years, the Akuapem state has been at the heart of educational development in Ghana. It is here at Akropong that formal education began when the Basel Mission founded a Seminary in 1848, which was later renamed the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong.

This was the first institution of higher education in Ghana, and it remained the only teacher training institution in the then Gold Coast for over 50 years.

Our Impact

Its fundamental values have not only been maintained over the years but amplified.

In subsequent years, the Eastern Region, Okuapeman for that matter has seen the influx of many educational institutions spanning from primary through secondary school levels. During the pre and post-colonial era, schools had equipped sickbay facilities, free study materials, moderate student-teacher ratio, scholarship programs, less crowded dormitories etc.

However, population growth affected the delivery of quality education systems. Currently, government is making efforts to bring back some of these educational enhancement tools and policies to enrich the education of the Ghanaian youth. It is against this background, that Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III Foundation (OKWAF) has been established to complement government’s efforts.

Our Purpose

Despite efforts made by governments, individuals and philanthropic bodies to create near excellent educational infrastructure and implement excellent teaching and learning models, education outside the major cities in Ghana leaves much to be desired. The situation is dire in special educational institutions such as schools the deaf and blind. The OKWAF educational interventions are here to augment the already available systems which aims to provide equal and excellent educational opportunities for all irrespective of one’s physical and social
status.
